Eleven classical – and classic – favourites occupy Patrick Roberts’ newest album Del Gesu. The title is lifted from the multi-million dollar violin on which Patrick recorded this album – a 1730 Guanerius del Gesù, an instrument of centuries-long history, of rarity and soul. ‘Its voice carries a depth and character that is almost impossible to describe in words, yet every note reveals a story, a moment of pure beauty’ says Patrick.
Guanerius del Gesù, born in Cremona in 1698, is widely regarded as one of history’s greatest violin makers. His violins are celebrated for their boldness, power, and unique tonal complexity. Each instrument is a perfect marriage of precision craftsmanship and expressive freedom, capable of delivering both intensity and subtlety, qualities that have made them the choice of virtuosos throughout history.
The music on this album runs a gamut of emotions, from the peaceful "Pavane of Fauré" to the emotive highs of "Nessun dorma" from Puccini’s Turandot, also including music by Vivaldi, Marcello, Bach, Giazotto/Albinoni and others. It also includes a very special collaboration, [more to come]. It was all produced by extraordinary producer Franck van der Heijden and mastered by Andy Walter at Abbey Road Studios.
