One of the world’s best-selling albums, Dire Straits’ Brothers In Arms, celebrates its 40th anniversary with an exquisite product suite – including a 5LP and 3CD deluxe edition.
Produced by Neil Dorfsman and Mark Knopfler, and recorded between November 1984 – March 1985 at AIR Studios, Montserrat and the Power Station NYC, Dire Straits’ 5th studio album Brothers In Arms was originally released on 17th May 1985. It was the first album to sell over a million copies on CD and went on to become the band’s most commercially successful album.
The album, featuring singles “So Far Away”, “Money For Nothing”, “Walk Of Life”, “Brothers In Arms” and “Your Latest Trick” spent 14 non-consecutive weeks at Number 1 in the UK Albums Chart and is the 8th best-selling album in UK chart history. Its accolades include the Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical and the BRIT Award for Best British Album.
Re-issued in this configuration for the first time since 1985, the single-sleeve 1LP mirrors the original pressing where tracks “So Far Away”, “Money For Nothing”, “Your Latest Trick” and “Why Worry?” were abridged to fit the vinyl format.
The 5LP deluxe version includes the full album tracks and a previously unreleased full-length live concert from the band’s Municipal Auditorium, San Antonio tour stop in 1985. The Live In ’85 Tour ran a total of 248 gigs in 117 cities, covering 23 countries, with 11 trucks carrying 52 tonnes of equipment. It was seen by over two and a half million people.
The 5LP is housed in a beautiful slip-case featuring art inspired by Mark’s National Style “O” Resonator Guitar, seen on the cover of the main album.
These deluxe versions include a 16-page booklet featuring new liner notes, written by Journalist Paul Sexton, following new interviews with band members Mark Knopfler, John Ilsley and Guy Fletcher, and come with exclusive art prints.
