UNIVERSAL MUSIC AUSTRALIA LEADS THE 2024 ARIA AWARDS ACROSS ITS FAMILY OF ARTISTS AND LABELS WIDELY RECOGNISED IN MAJOR CATEGORIES.
TROYE SIVAN, 3%, MISSY HIGGINS, G FLIP, SOPHIEHUTCHINGS, TKAY MAIDZA AND TAYLOR SWIFT SECURE WINS ACROSS CATEGORIES ALBUM OFTHE YEAR, SONG OF THE YEAR, BEST SOLO ARTIST, BEST POP RELEASE, BEST AUSTRALIANLIVE ACT, MOST POPULAR INTERNATIONAL ARTIST AND MANY MORE.Universal Music Australia (UMA), the Australian division of Universal Music Group, the world leader in music-based entertainment, and its family of artists and labels were widely recognised at the 2024 Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) Awards ceremony held at The Hordern Pavilion in Sydney.
Led by EMI Australia signed artist Troye Sivan securing three prestigious ARIA award categories including Album of the Year, Best Solo Artist, and Best Pop Release, for his chart topping and critically acclaimed album Something To Give Each Other, adding to an impressive list of ARIA wins, now totalling nine awards. Troye recently earned a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Dance Recording for his single ‘Got Me Started’, this is Troye’s third career Grammy nomination. Troye’s international impact and pop influence continues to make waves with the Something To Give Each Other Tour kicking off this week in Perth and Adelaide, with more shows across Australia and New Zealand to come with EMI Australia artist Nick Ward supporting. Last year, Troye won the most ARIA awards for his single ‘Rush’ including Song of the Year, Best Solo Artist, Engineer-Best Engineered Release (Styalz Fuego) and Producer – Best Produced Release (Styalz Fuego). G FLIP (Future Classic) secured the major category Song of the Year for ‘The Worst Person Alive’.
3% the First Nations collective represented by 1788 Records/Virgin Music Group (UMA) received two ARIA awards, including in the prestigious Best Hip Hop/Rap Release category and for Best Cover Art with Daniel Boyd and Nomad Create for their debut album cover ‘Kill the Dead’ released earlier in the year. The super group of artists Nooky, Dallas Wood and Angus Field lit up the ARIA stage with an unforgettable performance alongside Jessica Mauboy and Julian Hamilton (The Presets).
It was truly the biggest night of the year in Australian music, and full of celebrations for Missy Higgins (Eleven/EMI Australia), winning the ARIA award for Best Australian Live Act presented by Destination NSW. The influential singer-songwriter, and now ten-time ARIA award winner was immortalised in the ARIA Hall Of Fame, in recognition of Missy’s legendary career spanning decades of influence in the Australian music industry. To close out the ceremony, Missy took the audience on an emotional journey with a magical and show stopping performance that will be etched into ARIA history.
Tkay Maidza (Dew Process/Universal Music Australia) won Best Soul/R&B Release for her second studio album ‘Sweet Justice’ and in the Best Classical Album category, Sophie Hutchings (Mercury KX/UMA) secured the ARIA award for ‘A World Outside’.
Universal Music Australia (UMG) and its family of labels held the majority in the Most Popular International Artist category, with nominations including Ariana Grande (Republic Records/Universal Music Australia), Billie Eilish (Darkroom/Interscope/Universal Music Australia), Chappell Roan (Island Records USA/Universal Music Australia), Drake (Republic Records/Universal Music Australia), Olivia Rodrigo (Geffen/Universal Music Australia) and Taylor Swift (Republic Records/Universal Music Australia).
Most Popular International Artist category was awarded to Taylor Swift (Republic Records/UMA)for her album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’, this is the fourth time the global superstar has won an ARIA award, Taylor Swift accepted her award through a video played during the ceremony, thanking her fans who voted and supported her at the Eras Tour that hit Australian shores earlier in the year.
